One of my favourite quotes is by Henri Cartier-Bresson where he says “Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back again”.
What do we have to remind us of those special moments in our lives? We have our memories and we have our photos. With no disrespect to Uncle Charlie, who probably has the same camera I do, but I am not sure he knows how to use it effectively. I am not sure he knows how to interpret ambient light that will affect the whole image. Or is he prepared for the unexpected and knows how to deal with it. In my career and training over 20 years I have learned to compose images above the level of a snapshot. I capture images with the final composition in mind. And often there are only a few split seconds to capture that memorable image – particularly at weddings and other special events which can be a high pressure environment.
You really only have one chance to capture those precious moments of celebration, family togetherness, milestones and achievements.
I believe I am that chance.
